Announcing the establishment of OpenPolicy, Inc.

OpenPolicy, Inc. has been established and has begun operations.

In what is often called the VUCA era, the environment surrounding companies and public bodies is changing rapidly. Assumptions long taken for granted no longer hold, and the structures and rules of society can no longer be treated as given. As people's values change, social systems and norms are continually being updated.

In corporate management, the concept of non-market strategy, proposed some thirty years ago by the American management scholar David P. Baron, deserves renewed attention. Non-market strategy refers to a strategy in which a company is conscious of how it relates to society and works with stakeholders through rulemaking, corporate social responsibility, and similar activities. In a social environment as complex as today's, sustained value creation requires not market strategy alone but an integrated approach that combines market and non-market strategy.

Public bodies, for their part, face increasingly severe constraints on funding and personnel as the population declines, while needing to respond quickly to ever more complex challenges. As one way of addressing this, public-private collaboration and partnerships that draw on private-sector knowledge, technology, and resources are becoming more important than ever.

We believe that interaction between the private and public sectors contributes to sustained value creation for companies and to sustained policy creation for public bodies. To help realize a society in which solving social challenges and sustainable growth go hand in hand, we will draw on our knowledge of government, public affairs, and entrepreneurship to provide the best solutions for corporate public affairs and public-sector project development.
